SNUGGLE, SLEEP, FESTIVITIES, REPEAT – Holiday Sleep Tips with Diana Martins of Wee Sleep!

Don’t let the holidays ruin sleep!

We know that this pandemic has been tough on us all! Now entering province wide lockdown can create a lot of anxiety and stress for the parents, which trickles down to the child. We may try to overcompensate somehow to make up for the different Christmas they may experience. I wanted to share some sleep tips to help your child stay on track even with all the holiday festivities.

  1. Always do their bedtime routine. Your child may be over tired and stayed up past their bedtime. The routine is even more crucial in this stage to help them wind down. Changing it up or trying to rush the routine could backfire with an already overtired child.

  2. Avoid bedtime sugar. Candy canes, hot chocolates, stocking stuffers can all contribute to your child being hyperactive at bedtime. Sugar does affect their sleep and should be avoided 2 hours before bedtime!

  3. When sleeping at unfamiliar places, try to do your best to replicate the child’s sleep environment at home. Bring their favourite lovey, sound machine, sleep sack all the goodies to help them adjust to their new surrounding as much as possible

Hopefully these three tips can help your children sleep well throughout the holiday break!

Happy Holidays!
