Heartburn No More - Baja Chicken Wraps #daisydoulatastytuesdays

Throughout pregnancy your body goes through various changes as you grow your little one. One of those changes include heartburn and about 80% pregnant women experience it at some point during their pregnancy. Heartburn during pregnancy occurs as the uterus increases in size forcing acid into the esophagus and when there is a surge in the hormone progesterone (the hormone that relaxes muscles in pregnancy, but also relaxes the stomach valve that keeps acid out of the esophagus). Heartburn can also be triggered by spicy foods, citrus, and eating large meals.

Pregnant momma’s do no not despair, there are many natural remedies to help alleviate your symptoms such as ginger to soothe your digestive tract, mixing a tablespoon of  apple cider vinegar in a cup of water to calm the acid, snacking on pineapple or papaya after meals, a well as considering taking a probiotic as long as you have discussed this with your healthcare provider.

There are also many easy heartburn safe recipes that you can try to avoid being triggered. This weeks recipe is:

Chicken Marinade:

1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast
2 limes, juice
1/4 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon black pepper

Wrap Ingredients:

4 cups shredded lettuce

Large tortillas

Directions

1) Mix together marinade ingredients. Add chicken breasts and let marinate for a few minutes.

3) Slice chicken thinly.

4) In a bowl, mix together chopped lettuce, ranch dressing, and a dash of hot sauce.

5) On a large tortilla, put down a layer of the lettuce mixture.

6) Top with about 1/4 of an avocado and a layer of chicken. I recommend about 4 ounces of chicken per wrap.

7) Top with a sprinkle of salt and pepper and an extra dash of hot sauce and roll the wrap up.

8) Slice and serve!
