Your mother’s Bowls - The first Forty Days #Daisydoulastastytuesdays
As you go through pregnancy, there is so much anticipation and planning for the birth of your little one, which often leads to focusing less on your postpartum healing. Being well prepped with nourishing meals for you and your family can go a long way when your body is lacking sleep and trying to heal. Heng Ou the author of the The First Forty Days & founder of @motherbees created a guide for postpartum healing and care, inspired by her personal experience with traditional Chinese zou yuezi (the practice of remaining at home for the first forty days to focus on healing and nurturing the bond between birthing person and baby).
This week's #daisydoulastastytuesdays recipe is featuring Heng Ou - Mother's Bowls. The beauty behind her mother's bowls is that it incorporates a protein, greens, whole grains or root vegetables which allows for easy prep.
Here is a few of her favourite combinations:
Mexican Bowl
In a bowl layer these: Leftover or freshly cooked beans (your choice) Shredded lettuce Grated cheese (optional) Leftover ground meat or freshly cooked Salsa Avocado slices For an extra layer and added crunch, add organic corn chips, and eat it with your hands like nachos.
Italian Bowl
In a medium bowl, add the following for a warming, comforting pasta bowl:
Cooked noodles of your choice, either with gluten or gluten-free (rice, bean, corn noodles are all great options); warmed pasta sauce (add mushrooms and onions and arugula for a heartier sauce).Meatballs (easy to make ; just combine the ground meat of your choice with an egg or two and any other herbs and spices you like, such as basil or cumin, and season with salt and pepper, then cook)
Enjoy!
Indian Curry Bowl
In a bowl layer the following:
Basmati Rice or leftover cooked lentils
Curry powder or curry sauce (available in the international section of grocery stores)
Stir-fried or steamed vegetables and sliced ginger (carrots, peppers, broccoli, mushroom, peas)

Happy Cooking!
